Multi-Disciplinary and Systems Engineering

Providing high quality multi-disciplinary engineering consultancy throughout the project lifecycle. Our discipline experts and rail system engineers have the experience and know how to add value at every stage of your project. We have the capability to support any organisation affecting the UK rail infrastructure.

  • Leading on the Systems integration process for projects including SI triage assessments and management of the SI plan and associated deliverables throughout the project lifecycle.

  • Assessment of all existing assets and associated infrastructure to inform maintenance, renewal or project proposals.

  • All types of topographical surveys carried out in accordance with NR/L2/TRK/3100 signalling, power and telecoms asset related surveys.

  • Engineering assurance of all multi-disciplinary design and construction works.

  • Multi-disciplinary project development, expertise and management for new or enhancements of existing rail depots and facilities across the UK rail network.

  • Multi-disciplinary early-stage project development expertise and management (GRIP1-3 or PACE1). ‘Developing the robust option selection output in the early stages of the project provides a strong foundation for success’.

Permanent Way

At Touchstone Rail we have extensive experience in every aspect of permanent way engineering. Whether your project directly impacts or has an interface with the permanent way, we can provide the technical expertise and assurance to solve any problem.

  • Commission, manage and assure all aspects of gauging survey and design.

  • Leadership on design, assurance, and management of the technical interfaces for capacity enhancement schemes.

  • Commission, manage and assure track bed and drainage investigations in accordance with NR/L2/TRK/4239.

  • Untertake and assure buffer stop risk assessments for existing and new layouts, or interfacing infrastructure projects.

  • Commission, manage and assure schemes involving longitudinal bearer systems to NR/L2/TRK/3038.

Electrification and Plant

Offering clients engineering assurance and consultancy services for all aspects of the E&P discipline, we can support your project in the following areas.

  • Design management and engineering assurance for the interface between infrastructure and DNOs for new connections, diversions, and alterations.

  • Design management and engineering assurance covering the full suite of power supplies and assets feeding the signalling system.

  • Design management and engineering assurance ranging from LV power supplies, 25KV HV, UPS systems and integration, SCADA and alarm systems, protection and control systems and overhead line equipment (OLE).

Signalling

We can support clients at every stage in the development and design assurance of signalling systems. We can help you manage the interfaces between signalling and all other disciplines.

  • Early-stage design review and assurance, and stakeholder management of the SSP approval process.

  • Multi-disciplinary design and construction assurance for signalling stage works.

  • Engineering management and assurance of multi-disciplinary bonding plans.

  • Design review and assurance for signalling control tables.

Telecoms

We can support clients at every stage in the development and design assurance of telecoms systems.

  • Managing the interface between projects and NRT at every stage of the project.

  • We can undertake PAN0061 GSM-R surveys on behalf of clients and manage the interface with Network Rail and NRT.

  • Engineering management and assurance of all operational and retail communication systems including SISS (station information security systems).

Civils

Offering a diverse coverage of the building and civils discipline to support client, supply chain or outside party organisations. We have extensive experience in design and construction assurance of civil engineering infrastructure and integrating it within the wider rail system.

  • Assurance of temporary works in support of all railway related construction and demolition projects.

  • Full geotechnical assurance for the design, construction and remediation of earthworks and drainage systems.

  • Assurance of new and modified station design ranging from capacity enhancement, alterations and remodelling.

  • Touchstone Rail has a supplier pre-qualification process and would welcome an expression of interest. A PQQ can be provided upon request via contact@touchstonerail.co.uk.

  • All Touchstone Rail engineers performing roles under NR/L2/RSE/02009 will be internally assessed in accordance with our competence management system. Many of our engineers also hold current Network Rail ATW (Authority to work) competencies.

  • We have extensive experience working within the Network Rail ASPRO organisation and are well placed to help your project navigate the process and manage the complex interface with Network Rail and other key stakeholders such as train operating companies. We will lead on engineering management and design assurance and can also act as the PMO (Project Management Office) providing full CDM management and construction management expertise.

  • Touchstone Rail are fully RISQS verified and qualified via audited. We hold a professional membership with the PWI and are members of CIRAS. We will also be undergoing ISO9001:2015 accreditation in 2023. Our RISQS certificates can be located here.
