The Touchstone Rail team have unrivalled project design and construction delivery experience in the permanent way discipline.

  • Covering every aspect of plain line track design ranging from line speed increases, track lowering, level crossing interface, platform extensions, bridge renewals, and spatially constrained tunnel schemes.

  • Outline, detailed and manufacturing design for all configurations and complexity of S&C including new layout design, renewal and refurbishment.

  • All types of gauging surveys, assessments and design, we demonstrate compliance of the vehicle/structure interface.

  • Providing design solutions for longitudinal bearer systems (LBS) including connections with the supporting structure, rail support arrangements and stiffness transitional arrangements between low and high fixity track systems.

  • Delivering ballastless track solutions using all major slab systems, as well as configuring bespoke solutions.

  • Design solutions for ATG routes and MTP sites ranging from maintenance design tamping to gauge enhancement schemes through tunnels and platforms.

  • Buffer stop risk assessment and design services including liaison with Network Rail stakeholders and manufacturers. Highly experienced in a range of solutions for fixed, sliding and hydraulic buffer stop types, we offer a complete permanent way design service at the terminal interface.

  • Full track system design solutions for depot and siding layout including detailed interface of infrastructure such as carriage washing machines, drainage, wheel lathes, bogie drop pits, CET, and OLE.

  • Providing a full multidisciplinary assessment at the platform train interface including track geometry, coper edge position and platform crossfall, and OLE to inform the optimum solution.

  • Touchstone Rail has a supplier pre-qualification process and would welcome an expression of interest. A PQQ can be provided upon request via contact@touchstonerail.co.uk.

  • All Touchstone Rail engineers performing roles under NR/L2/RSE/02009 will be internally assessed in accordance with our competence management system. Many of our engineers also hold current Network Rail ATW (Authority to work) competencies.

  • We have extensive experience working within the Network Rail ASPRO organisation and are well placed to help your project navigate the process and manage the complex interface with Network Rail and other key stakeholders such as train operating companies. We will lead on engineering management and design assurance and can also act as the PMO (Project Management Office) providing full CDM management and construction management expertise.

  • Touchstone Rail are fully RISQS verified and qualified via audited. We hold a professional membership with the PWI and are members of CIRAS. We will also be undergoing ISO9001:2015 accreditation in 2023. Our RISQS certificates can be located here.

  • We have vast experience in delivering Depot projects throughout the UK covering the full lifecycle from feasibility through to design, construction and placing into service. We can also help with asset condition and maintenance advice for depot related and ‘off network’ facilities.
